A seasoned technology leader with more than 35 years of experience, Van Williams thrives in complex product development environments. He cultivates high-performing teams and transforms business and IT operations to achieve outstanding results. He has expertise in various software development methodologies, including extensive experience with Agile and SAFe.
Van’s early software development career was spent launching more than a dozen new products, which gave him hands-on experience in the roles of chief product architect, developer, quality assurance, and customer experience. Using this well-rounded acumen, he had the opportunity to lead the development of the online bill payment product from CheckFree as it essentially built the online bill pay industry from scratch in the late 1990s. Van quickly moved from vice president of product development to general manager of the Bank of America business unit, and eventually, led all development across CheckFree as the chief technology officer, managing a team of nearly 400.
In his leadership roles at CheckFree, he fostered a culture that emphasized high work productivity and personal life balance. He spearheaded cultural awareness events, community service, and team building activities that are still in place today. In 2008, CheckFree was sold to Fiserv and Van continued as a divisional chief information officer for another four years, building offshore teams and working across Fiserv to standardize processes and technology.
Van’s subsequent career roles concentrated on helping growth-mode companies and start-ups build product and business lines, launch products, optimize IT operations, and successfully manage strategic acquisitions and partnerships.
Now, as a fractional technology executive, Van focuses on technology consulting for companies seeking a greater depth of experience in product architecture, security, development processes, and team building.
Van lives in Atlanta with his wife where they enjoy boating, soccer, college football, and time with his three children and their families. He is passionate about working with young people. He and his wife are part of the youth group at their local church and serve on the board of directors for Ciudad de Angeles, an orphanage in Cozumel, Mexico.
