The Altus CXO Model

Build What's Next. Lead on Your Terms.

Altus CXO matches proven executives with companies that need strategic leadership. Here is how our model differs from going it alone.

How Altus CXO Works

Altus CXO operates like a firm, not a job board. Our associates are connected and interdependent. When an engagement calls for expertise beyond a single discipline, associates bring in the right people from across the network. A fractional CFO working with a growth-stage client might pull in an Altus CXO COO to help operationalize a new revenue model, or a CTO to assess the tech stack. The client gets a coordinated team. You get colleagues, not competitors.

Not a Marketplace. Not a Staffing Agency.

Most fractional platforms work like matchmaking services: they connect executives with companies and step back. Altus CXO does not work that way. The firm provides structure and support around engagements. When a client needs something outside your lane, there is a network of associates across disciplines you can tap into rather than figuring it out alone.

This matters because fractional work done well is not just about showing up with the right resume. It is about having backup, having perspective from other disciplines, and having an organization behind you that is invested in the outcome.

The Associate Network

Every Altus CXO associate brings deep functional expertise: CFOs, COOs, CTOs, CIOs, CMOs, CHROs, CSOs, and more. But what makes the model work is the connective tissue between them. Associates share knowledge, refer work to each other, and collaborate on multi-discipline engagements. You are building your own practice, but you are not building it in isolation.

This network effect is one of the hardest things to replicate as an independent fractional executive. Going solo means you are your own sales team, your own support system, and your own sounding board. At Altus CXO, the network fills those gaps.

Finding Clients as an Altus CXO Associate

You are responsible for finding your own clients. That is the honest starting point. Altus CXO is not a staffing agency that hands you engagements. Your network, your reputation, and your business development effort are what drive your pipeline.

Where the model adds value is in the network effects that build over time. Associates refer work to each other. A COO working with a client who needs financial leadership sends that opportunity to a CFO in the network. A CTO finishing an engagement introduces the next associate. These cross-referrals compound as the network grows, and they are the kind of warm introductions that are nearly impossible to generate as an independent. The longer you are part of Altus CXO, the more these network effects work in your favor.

How Fractional Engagements Work

Whether you source a client yourself or receive a referral through the network, you own the engagement. You scope the work with the client, define hours and deliverables, and operate as an embedded leader within their organization. Altus CXO provides the operational infrastructure around you, including tools, invoicing, and the broader associate network to lean on, but the client relationship is yours to manage and deliver on. Contracts are typically month-to-month or short fixed terms, giving both sides flexibility.

Who This Model Serves Best

The Altus CXO model is built for experienced executives who want to do fractional work with the backing of a firm rather than going it completely alone. If you have the expertise and the drive to find and lead engagements, but want the infrastructure, network effects, and cross-functional collaboration that come with being part of something larger, this is the model.
